The Burnside and Mt. Hope areas of the Bronx have struggled for years with the need for adequate and affordable housing as well as educational reform. MARC organized in 1997 to become a voice for these issues. Today, we offer a range of educational services, which include a summer camp and other family programs. We have achieved considerable success in our efforts, and we owe much of that success to our collaborative work with partners in the community. It didn’t take us long to recognize that good health and nutrition go hand in hand, and when we saw that BHR was tackling issues of childhood obesity and asthma, we knew that being a member of this important coalition could only mean success. We now plan to offer children’s fitness programs in our community and schools, and we know that collaboration is the only way it can happen.
